Heritage Language
The primary objective of our Heritage Language Program is to help young Afghans learn and maintain their Dari and/or Pashto reading, writing and speaking skills. Developing these language skills is very important for the following reasons:
- Understanding and speaking their native language helps young Afghans maintain and better understand their cultural identity
- Improving communication between children and parents – as the younger generation begin integrates English as their primary language - families often have difficulty communicating, especially between the older and younger family members
- Teaching children writing and reading skills contributes to the ideals of multiculturalism in Canadian society.
Classes are held on weekends during the school year.
